Review: The Holiday Swap by Maggie Knox

I know it is and always will be controversial, but to me, once Halloween is over… it is time to start in on the Christmas reads! My very first of the year is The Holiday Swap, a classic identical twins swap lives trope. I am here for it!

What’s it about?

“When chef Charlie Goodwin gets hit on the head on the L.A. set of her reality baking show, she loses a lot more than consciousness; she also loses her ability to taste and smell--both critical to her success as show judge. Meanwhile, Charlie's identical twin, Cass, is frantically trying to hold her own life together back in their quaint mountain hometown while running the family's bustling bakery and dealing with her ex, who won't get the memo that they're over.

With only days until Christmas, a desperate Charlie asks Cass to do something they haven't done since they were kids: switch places. Looking for her own escape from reality, Cass agrees. But temporarily trading lives proves more complicated than they imagined, especially when rugged firefighter Jake Greenman and gorgeous physician's assistant Miguel Rodriguez are thrown into the mix. Will the twins' identity swap be a recipe for disaster, or does it have all the right ingredients for getting their lives back on track?” - Goodreads

What I loved

Well, as a solid lover of all things Christmas, including movies and books…there’s not much I didn’t love. I enjoyed the sisters and their personalities, their fully fleshed out careers that were similar but still so different. It was nice to see Christmas from LA as well as from the snowy little Christmas town. A lot of times these Christmas romance stories focus solely on the love storyline and just gloss over everything else. Thankfully, that was not the case here. And of course, any book that describes cooking or baking in it is one that I will enjoy, even if it does make me want to eat pastries while I do so.

What I didn’t love as much

Like I said, there isn’t much I didn't love about it. But I will say if fairly predictable holiday romance isn’t your kind of book then this one won’t be for you.

Overall

A super cute holiday romance (non-spicy). Would recommend if you like holiday books, twin swap tropes and non-spicy romance stories.
